The happy advent of Amber and Josh for tupper next week, which will be great, brings up something I've been wanting to check in with everyone about, which is the question of bringing guests to tupper supper.
Now that we are sharing the cooking and hosting around a bit more mindfully, it seems to me like we might want to have a Code -- well, more of a guideline -- for bringing guests to dinner.
(Basically, let us simply acknowledge that Alix's grace and hospitality allowed for bringing multiple surprise guests at the last second, but let us also honor the fact that, frankly, my head would totally explode if that happened on MY night to cook!
Here's what I would like, as a cook myself:
-Please ask the cook's permission before inviting guests, ideally up to 2 days in advance, since some of us actually have trouble getting to the grocery store without copious advance planning;
and
-Please consider volunteering to cook or host or both if you are bringing a guest.
Does that make sense to everyone? Sorry if I'm being overcontrolling. You are free to vote me down, of course!
Love Jan

Your suggestions make perfect sense to me. And, given that I agree, I shall come prepared to help the scheduled Tup cook December 5, although my house won't be clean enough to offer it as alternative site for Tupper Supper that night. My table won't be clear enough for anybody to eat on until the evening of December 24, I can pretty much guarantee.
But, if someone wanted to come over and eat dinner on a tray in my living room with me before then, that would be possible.
First off, Dexter and Natasha and Ira and Yacine all say hello! It is 80 degrees and there is Christmas music everywhere...the Trinidadian meals add to the surreality. But it is lovely.
So, I am thinking I am cooking this week, unless Andrew the elder is inspired. If I am cooking, the meal is still at A/A/A because as we know, my house is too small. I figure I should be able to make a nice main dish/maybe start it at home and finish it off at the house of A's. The biggest help for me is SALAD and BREAD and DESSERT and WINE. What say you all?
